Friday March 17 2006, 9pm the Violent Spectator, Gene Hackman, the Discordian Society, Hideki Tojo
Saturday March 4, 2006 9pm The Misled, Drawn A Blank, The Two Funerals Wall-to-wall punk action. The CD release party was a total success. I got a 2 Funerals shirt, finally something that isn't a t-shirt! It has a fox on it, and some lace. The Misled did come back the next day and help clean up. xoxoxoxo
Wednesday Februray 22, 2006 8pm The Dynamite Club, The Talibam, PPR Oh, boy, what a show this was. Two of our favorite out-of-town bands converged on the PlopHouse, bringing a new group with them (the Talibam) that also blew us away. Dan stapled a chicken to his crotch in hopes of enticing PPR to play 'the Chickenfucker Suite." I can't believe this much cool shit happens at my house.
Saturday February 18, 2006 300-pound Ghost, Hideki Tojo: OK, it's been a while since I did a show report. This one had lots of purple lights. The floor was throbbing. Hideki Tojo has a myspace space now.
Monday November 7, 9pm, $3 Are You Ready to Vote? Show
Hototogisu (Matthew Bower from Skullflower, Total, Sunroof and Marcia Bassett from Un, Double Leopards http://www.volcanictongue.com/hototogisu.html) and the Mikel Dimmick Spiral Joy Band
I missed this show, anyone that has a report, please send it on! I hear that the MDSJB has a new album out, look on Amazon.com for "Lullabies for Jeff Dean." Also heard that Hototogisu was excellent.
Saturday October 29, 9pm, Costume Ball: $3 without costume/$2 with
Gene Hackman, The A&R Guys, Sexy O'Sullivan the Perfect Female Robot, The Misled, Hideki Tojo
Awesome show! Many great costumes and bands. Gene Hackman (Sean & Pete) were great, look for them on the "Local Zone" some time in the future. Sexy O'Sullivan had a personal problem of a scientific nature ("Schroedinger's Pussy") and wished they had some brains. The A&R guys startled everyone with the breadth and depth of covers they would sink to for the sake of entertainment. The Misled packed the house as usual - great to see you guys! And Hideki entertained the dregs of the crowd 'til the wee hours. Pix were taken, check back later....
Saturday September 24: Return of PPR: Boss Rockers PPR from Decatur, GA and other local acts TBA - if you're lucky, Johnny No-Friends might play! PPR is always a blast. You need to get their album, even if it is called "Diarrhea." We've been listening - you won't hear it on the radio but it's a lot of fun.
Friday, September 9th: People's Politics: Chris Chandler, the Political American Poet that the Washington Post calls "Dangerous!" will be stopping by on his east-coast tour. Also featuring Deral Fenderson and Hideki Tojo! Chris was funny and touching, they did a great rendition of "I wish I was in New Orleans" by the ever-lovin' Tom Waits.
Saturday August 27th: Chaos: Blend on HIGH! Hideki Tojo and The Discordian Society storm the PlopHouse! Always a good ol' time with these folks.
Saturday, August 13: A night of speculative sound - Kentucky invasion! A very interesting evening! Starting out we had duelling ESRAJs. You don't usually see even one of these Indian instruments, much less two! Auk Theater put on a couple of surreal performance art pieces. Very strange and compelling. Eyes and Arms of Smoke had a plethora of sounds, delicate and irresistable. The evening was completed by the always popular Spiral Joy Band. Thanks, guys!
Saturday August 6: Acoustic fun Steppin' Out Weekend - The Black Twig Pickers are so much fun! They played inside since it had rained like crazy early in the evening and the yard was muddy. Beggar's Choice, Liz and Dave's band from Greensboro were wonderful. I think I cried four times for all the sad love songs, then they cheered me right up with a smokin' cover of the Spankers' "Whatever." Come back any time, guys! Artificial Satellite rounded out the evening with a lovely melodic set.Saturday July 30: WUVT's Germinate A raucous and wonderful show that went on til sunrise. The HOTTEST SHOW EVER! Spbxmplfr got sweaty and took off some clothes (yay!). 300-lb Ghost wigged out. Johnny No-Friends fought Hideki Tojo for their honor. It was an epic battle, yet somehow JAY PURDY won! Surprise guest band La Bandera Negra, featuring singer Len Camarada, blew it all out with a mind-boggling set of Black Flag covers. The Misled rocked the house as usual, we're so sad these guys are leaving Blacksburg! <sniff> Rock over Richmond! Spiral Joy Band didn't get started til godawful-late in the evening/early in the morning. Stamina!!
Saturday July 23, 2005: Downing Street Memos 3rd year anniversary party
Part of the http://www.afterdowningstreet.org national Downing Street Memo Day. We ate blackberry pie and ice-cream and talked politics all afternoon.

Sunday April 10: Sunday Afternoon Drone Show: The Mikel Dimmick Spiral Joy Band and Aaron Rosenblum from NYC, good times in the afternoon. The Black Twig Pickers played out in the yard to a very enthusiastic audience.
Saturday April 2: Dark Melodies Show: Gene Hackman put on an energetic and enjoyable set. New Sofa hid in a fort made of blankets and pillows and made some very strange sounds. We all sat in the floor by candle-light and fell in love with Sharron Kraus and Caleb Stine.
Friday, March 4: Last Show Ever: the Two Funerals (Blacksburg), Me vs. the Monster (Blacksburg), Syphilis Death Squad (WVA), Blacksburg Transit Overdrive (Blacksburg), the Misled (Blacksburg). We we so bummed that Syphilis Death Squad couldn't make it. It sounds like the drummer is doing some great work with kids in WVa, though. BTO played first: 2 drummers - Nathan from Soapbox Amplifier and Dan with his eyes taped shut - Nat on guitar, James Myers on the mike, me and my fez on the bass. The 2 Funerals got the house jumpin', Me vs. the Monster kept it going and the Misled rocked the house down. Late-night reprise of BTO in the dark. Pix: BTO & Two funerals (Thanks, Sarah!)
Friday Feb. 18, 2005: Spiral Explosion Show: Piccalinsu (Kyoto), The Guva (Osaka), The Dynamite Club (NYC). This show is the reason I haven't updated this page for a while. I was soooo sick I left town and hid out for the entire weekend. I'm even sicker that I missed this show! Of course it was the most amazing thing yet. I don't want to talk about it. Go to the websites and download some tunes. Buy the CDs. Really. Pix: Dynamite Club/Piccalinsu/The Guva (Thanks, Thomas!)
Saturday Feb. 12, 2005: Shake It Up Show: Lived Like Murder (South Carolina), Hideki Tojo (Blacksburg), The Discordian Society (Roanoke). Lived Like Murder didn't play. The Letter Red played instead - they were reallygood once they got around to setting up! Sorry I haven't mailed you guys a videotape yet, I haven't gotten anything dubbed yet. Hideki Tojo took up the slack and were wildly entertaining as usual. The Discordians started and ended late in the evening, I like these guys more every time I see them.
Saturday Feb. 5, 2005 Oh No, It's Happening Again Show: Johnny No-Friends, Suchard, and Michael Dimmick Spiral Current Emotion Band. Suchard didn't play. JNF Nat, Dan, Ben in costumes version (pix courtesy of Jan Downs). MDSCEB in huge gong mode. Awe-inspiring as usual.
Tuesday Jan. 18 2005 Inauguration Celebration Show The Heroic Livers and the Visitations from Athens, GA, stop by on their way to DC. These guys might be politically minded but you would never call them stuffy! We danced like dinosaurs and sang along to the Quack Doc Script Shop Pill Poppin' Blues. Both bands interviewed in the bathroom for the nascent PlopHouse documentary.
December 17, 2004 Kung Fu Show: Dynamite Club. Escaped lunatics from NYC kung fu each other. + Spbxmplfr & Hideki Tojo. Dynamite Club was insanely great. Hot Japanese ass and indescribable musical prowess left the crowd sweaty and hoarse, resulting in the first encore ever demanded and delivered at the PlopHouse.
December 4, 2004 House favorites: Johnny No-Friends, Suchard, and Michael Dimmick Spiral Current Emotion Band. JNF in the pedal-looping and 'fuck you!' screaming edition. Suckers! Suchard does a quiet and sweet set. MDSCEB hypnotizes us with singing bowls, drone and a new gong! Brawl in the yard results in a broken finger.
December 3, 2004 50 Shows in 50 States Benefit for http://www.girlsrockcamp.org: The Two Funerals showed up on time and started playing right at 4pm, unheard of behavior at the PlopHouse. 3 chicks doing Clash, Ramones, Rancid, etc., covers and some originals. Everyone plays short sets, band changouts were utterly efficient and everyone is startled to find it's all over by 9pm.
November 11, 2004 Chaos Show: The Discordian Society, Johnny No-Friends, Hideki Tojo. JNF covers "Detachable Penis" and creates a grungy surf-ballad about the great ape escape. HT knocks our socks off. Everybody sings along on "Don Johnson." The Discordian Society doesn't start playing til 1am, a new record in PlopHouse lateness. Amped-up chaos-rock with the best bass player I've seen yet.
November 5, 2005 Hardcore Show: Accursed Dawn (Lexington metal, back in blaxxx), Battle Master (Fantasy metal from RVA), Lovers and Killers (Crust-core from Baltimore). Great show! Lovers and Killers are nuts! They seemed so polite and reserved until they started playing.
October 29, 2004 Hip-Hop Show: Southern Comfort & special guest DJ. These folks did some kick-ass rappin' and kept the crowd dancing.
October 23, 2004 Hardcore (?) Show: Last November, Me vs the Monster, Dragonsaur, Out for Justice. I know this show rocked but I had a cold and stayed in bed.
October 21, 2004 Bush Protest Show: The Visitations from Athens, GA, bring down the house with their rockin' diatribes against GW, Rush Limbaugh, & more. The bass player gets his wish to "black out in every town we play."
October 15, 2004 Hardcore Show: Out for Justice, The Hate Crimes, Turning Seasons, False Hope. One of the biggest shows ever, armpit-to-armpit in the cabin. Someone jumps out of Dan's loft.
October 8, 2004 Tres' Artiste Show: Much art created. A plant gets knocked over.

September 19, 2004: Baroness, False Hope & Shadows and the Silence put on a loud, fast, stellar show. Another happy crowd!
September 10, 2004: Aseraphymn, Choke Chain, Kaottick, Terror Ascends, and Syphilis Death Squad are scheduled. Only the last two bands actually play. They kick major ass. Audience doesn't flee when Johnny No-Friends takes up some slack and plays a short set. Flyer.
September 5, 2004: The inaugural show: Johnny No-Friends, Sing! Sing! Prison, Skyline Awake, and the Misled put on awesome performances. Everyone involved is amazed by how great the bands are and how enthusiastic the audience is.
August 1, 2004: The PlopHouse rises from the undifferentiated primordial slime.
